A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by the local high school field to get a couple of football pictures.  The players were much younger than high school kids. They were a part of Pop Warner football.

While shooting I thought about my grandson.  He’s such athletic 2-year old. According to the Pop Warner mission statement, he would fit in well:

  • To encourage and increase youth participation in football, cheerleading and dance.
  • To ensure a safe and positive playing environment for all participants.
  • To instill life-long values of teamwork, dedication and a superior work ethic in the classroom and on the playing field.

My grandson’s father can help him with his football education.  His mother can help him with his foreign language(can you habla Espanol).  I plan on being his golf pro and salsa teacher :)

Bridge Over The Beast

The bridge crosses over an environmental hazard on the 5th hole located at Heritage Shores Golf Club in Bridgeville DE.  I think it’s the 5th hole. The 9-hole women’s group name the hazard, The Beast” because of the difficulty in getting a shot over it.

The woman in front looks very distraught.  It may be because of the flood waters left on the Heritage Shores Golf Course in Bridgeville DE.  She and her neighbor have properties which border the course.  Behind them is a small bridge  used by golf carts to cross an overfilled pond. The pond is so close to their homes that they wonder if they’ll need flood insurance in the future.

It’s a dramatic picture for their dramatic story.

But it’s not totally true.  Yes, there was a flood behind homes.  Yes, flood insurance is on the minds of both women. Yes, there was a storm. Yes, the women were upset with the water so close to their homes.  But, the woman in front is not reacting this instance to the flooding.

Here’s what happened:

The morning after the storm, I see water covering the deck of small bridge and figure it’ll make a decent picture for blog. I talk my wife, Margo, into coming outside to take a picture of me walking over the bridge to really highlight the flooding.  The step ladder near bridge was to give Margo a little height to make the picture I had envisioned.  Margo took a couple pictures of me and our neighbor, Janet, must have seen us. She comes over and we discuss the flooding situation.  I then decide to get a picture of the two.  Janet see me about to take her picture and tries to hide her face. She had come outside being a concerned neighbor but had not made up her face. That’s why her face is covered and she is not crying.

A picture is worth a thousand words. OK(as I wink right eye)

My grandson, Naji, is too young to drive a golf cart but at his age he’s having just as much fun sitting behind the wheel.

Naji, is practicing with his new putter on a practice area in the Heritage Shores Golf Club.  His grandfather had to spring for the putter, a driver and a 6 iron because at 24 months of age Naji doesn’t have much money to spend.

Did Tiger Woods get his start this way?

Yes, what a beautiful day for golf.  Even with the good weather my score for 9 holes was 68, not good.  My problem is inconsistency, one great shot followed by 2 awful swings.

Next week, I’ll be back out there again, trying to do better. This golf thing is like life, trying to do better.

Practice Makes Perfect, But Not In Golf!

I don’t think the old saying about “practice makes perfect” holds true in golf. It should be practice makes you better, “sometimes”.  I saw a golfer today who feels he has better shots on the golf course than the practice range.

This diver is collecting golf balls from the bottom of a pond in the back of my house.  I had a picture of this guy last summer doing the same thing.  He splits the profit on re-sell of balls with the golf club.

H’eeeeez baaack!

This past Friday, May 15, was the Heritage Shores Ladies Member Guest 2009 Golf Tournament. The camera club shoots the tournament one of our photo projects. We document the event from all aspects: people arriving, tournament signs, driving range practice, breakfast, golf course action shots, dinner, slideshow,  you name it.  I was the coordinator between the golfers and the camera club.

It was like working at the newspaper on a big event: A team of photographers goes out, brings back a ton of pictures, editors picks pictures  to be used in paper the next day, the paper is laid out before deadline and then the presses roll.  Well, our camera club stared taking early in the morning, took a ton of pictures,  a selection was made, a slideshow put together and shown at dinner the same night.

We Were On Deadline.
